Touring the Finger Lakes Wine Trails – Part 4: Resources for Finger Lakes Wine Trail Visitors

A number of wineries have cafés and restaurants at which to dine

In this post, we offer resources for Wine Trailers, including profiles of the four Finger Lakes Wine Trails (listed east to west), resources to download wine score cards or access wine tasting phone apps, the resource for a list of winery touring and transportation companies, the place to find a list of award-winning wines and wineries in the Finger Lakes and a database of Finger Lakes Wineries, a source for wine tasting and pairing courses, my list of tourism resources throughout the Finger Lakes and the resource to find facts about wine production in this region.

  • Cayuga Lakes Wine Trail - Encompassing the longest and most eastern of the Finger Lakes, the Cayuga Wine Trail has 16 wineries, 1 cidery, 1 meadery and 4 distilleries. Trail Events* include Mardi Gras (February), Say Cheese & More (March), Annual Wine & Herb Weekends (Two weekends, in April & May), Harvest Hoopla (September) and two Holiday Shopping Spree Weekends (one in November, one in December).   • Seneca Lakes Wine Trail – The largest of the trails with 34 wineries, 3 breweries and 1 distillery. Trail Events* include Bargain Bash (January), Pasta & Wine Weekend (January), Chocolate & Wine Weekend (February), Cruisin’ The Tropics Weekend (March),Spring Wine & Cheese Weekend (April), Smokin’ Summer Kickoff (June) and Two Deck the Halls Weekends (November & December).   • Keuka Lakes Wine Trail – An award-winning intimate wine trail with 8 wineries surrounding beautiful Keuka Lake. Trail Events* include Cheese & Wine Lovers Weekend (February, NEW for 2012), Viva Italia (March/April),  Keuka in Bloom (May), Barbecue at the Wineries (June) the Harvest Tour of Food and Wine (September] and two Keuka Holidays Weekend (both in November).   • Canandaigua Wine Trail - The most western of the wine trails, and the closest to Rochester, this trail features 7 wineries and wine centers. Trail Events* include Plant Yourself in the Finger Lakes (May) and the Canandaigua Wine Trail Wine Crawl (in Autumn, usually October) where all the wineries gather at one location for “one stop tasting.” CLICK HERE for Special Offers & Deals.  CLICK HERE for a map of the Canandaigua Wine Trail. * Note: Refer to event pages for specific dates and event updates. Be sure to make reservations early for wine trail events as they often sell out.  Many of the individual wineries also hold special events throughout the year.

  •  A Simple Downloadable Wine Tasting Scorecard is available from Microsoft. A more comprehensive Wine Tasting Scorecard is available from BetterTastingWine.com. There are also many others available online that will help you track your favorite wines.
  • A selection of 5 iphone apps for wine tasting, for those who prefer a technical take on tasting.

  • Wine, Wine Tasting & Pairing Courses – Throughout the year, the New York Wine & Culinary Center offers introductory and advanced classes in understanding wines, in wine tasting and in pairing it with food.
