Question: On the home page, can you guess what the header photo is for this post? (answer at the end)
There’s something magical about how a play comes to life, whether it’s a school production, community theater or a professionally-produced spectacle. Only through the collaboration of many skilled, dedicated and enthusiastic people can a show go from concept to curtain calls, so “Magic in the Making” is a most perfect name for the event that will take place from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday, December 12. Geva will be rolling out the red carpets for a “Show and Tell All” experience.
At this special event, attendees get a chance to “Go Behind the Scenes” for Geva Theatre Center’s Production of A Christmas Carol, directed and adapted for the stage by Mark Cuddy, that runs through December 24.
Go, and you’ll have a rare opportunity to step into the spotlights and out onto the stage to see what Geva looks like from an actor’s perspective. You can view the technical room and meet the magicians who make the lighting and sound happen, and you can tour the prop and costume shops to discover insider production secrets. Be sure to visit the rehearsal room to learn about the rehearsal process and then explore the wonders of the casts’ dressing rooms.
Costume wizard (my term, not his title) Tom White, will share how he makes the Ghost of Christmas Past glow (I know, but I’m not going to tell you!).
Geva’s comedy improv troupe will also be on hand to tickle your funny bone and Moonlight Creamery will distribute free samples of their delicious ice cream. After your tour, be sure to stop by the box office, that will be open for the occasion, to get your tickets to this year’s production of A Christmas Carol, or you can also purchase them online.
This is a great evening outing for adults and for families, especially those with kids who love theater or who are wannabe performers!
This event is free and open to the public, no reservations needed. Geva Theatre Center is located at 75 Woodbury Boulevard in Rochester and parking is available in a lot across the street.
